Cafés are in danger because the love people had for them is slowly but surely
fading away, they used to be crowded but with a lot of people having
smartphones and the increase of WI-FI hotspots, Internet Cafés do not seem to
be having more customers like they used to.

Fundani (22) who is a first year journalism student at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) said: “I do not go to the internet café anymore
because I do not see any reason to” he said that he even does his printing and
school because it is much cheaper. Gauteng
premier David Makhura delivered his 2017 State of the Province Address Greenfields
Stadium in Randfontein on Monday 20 February and he said: “Whatever changes we
want to introduce, let us ensure that citizens continue to enjoy the benefits
of free WI-FI, especially the youth who need to access internet connectivity,
which must be supported through public funding” Makhura even said that by
March they have a target of 3000 sites by 2020.

Another journalism first year student at TUT by the name of Innocentia
Nkadimeng (19) said people no longer have time to buy data, “ I prefer WI-FI
because it is free, data is too expensive, data must fall” said Nkadimeng.
Internet café owner, Ndleleni Zikalala ( 41) said that the WI-FI hotspots do
not have that much negative impact on his business, “ initially I thought we
were going to lose our business but people still come to us for printing,
photocopying, laminating issue of sercurity at the WI-FI hotspots because there
is a lot of crime.and other services” he said. He continued to say that the
municipality should stress the issue of security in the hotspots.
